Movado Group Inc. said Thursday it was furloughing 850 employees, or about 80% of its North America workforce, in an effort to deal with business disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The furloughs will start April 6 and are expected to last through the end of May. The luxury watch seller said it was cutting pay for salaried workers by 15% to 25%, and Chief Executive Efraim Grinberg will forego all salary during the furlough period. In addition, Movado said it will freeze its 401(k) match, cut staff to "minimal levels" at its warehouses and minimize operating expenses and capital expenditures. The stock, which is still inactive in premarket trading, has lost 49.6% over the past three months, while the S&P 500 has declined 24.2%.

Following two disappointing quarters, the company's next progress report should come in late March upon the release of first quarter earnings.
